I have a Cannon Powershot S5IS and the zoom leveler button (around the shutter button) is sticky. If not used for a long time it will be sticky and will also get sticky if in warm weather outside or in the sun. I suspect something has spilled on the camera at some point, is there a way to fix this button?

Take your camera to a Canon authorized service center and see if they can try to clean the button area. This might solve your issue. Other than a cleaning they will most likely have to replace the button assembly and/or top cover depending on how the camera is designed.

'PowerShot is a Range of cameras as opposed to a model. For camera repairs, you really need profession repair as you need to be in a 'clean room'.

How do I activate digital zoom on my canon S3IS
I believe there is a ring around the button the shutter button (the button you press to take the photos. Your sort of push it left or right (near or far). The digital zoom should activate after it goes past its optical zoom range. Push it only slightly to slow down the zoom process.

Factory reset Cannon PowerShot S2 IS
I found this solution elsewhere, so I can't take credit for it. It seems a small piece of dirt gets stuck between the camera case and the button to take the picture. The button doesn't release fully, and it acts like the shutter button is pressed halfway down. Try running your finger over the top of the button in a circle to release it.
