A PS3 can be opened rather easily, but if your PS3 is newer, or still has a warranty on it, I wouldn't open the case. If you're unsure of whether you still have a warranty on it, you can call 1-800-345-7669 and they will give you instructions. If you open your case, you WILL void the warranty. That being said, here goes:
1. Locate the side of the PS3 with the HDD symbol on it(The left side of the PS3). Above the HDD symbol, there is a sticker that covers a plastic cover. Removing this sticker will void any warranty still on the PS3.
2. Peel off the sticker and gently pry the plastic cover out. There is a recessed area with a screw at the bottom, use a small screwdriver to unscrew it.
3. The plastic cover on top of the PS3 is now loose, and you can slide the plastic cover towards the left side of the PS3(where you just removed the sticker) and lift it off.
4. There are 8 screws holding a second plastic cover down. Unscrew them with a Phillips head screwdriver, and set them aside. Lift the cover straight off, and set aside. You have now opened your PS3, and have access to the Blu-Ray player and other internals.
Good Luck!
