Question about Sony DAV-S300 System

1 Answer

The DAV S300 system I have is almost 10 years old. And I have changed the lens once before. Now it's again giving me a 'no disc' error whenever I insert any disc. Instead of changing the lens again, I intend to continue with the speaker set and use a new Sony DVD player. All I now need is an amplifier that will be able to suitably drive the existing speakers and subwoofer. Please help

You're not likely to find a non-boxed-set control center amp that can safely drive 3-ohm speakers like yours.

HTIB's aren't meant to mix and match with anything. Proprietary speaker connections instead of stripped bare wire are a tip-off.

If you really like the speakers you could troll the auction sites for a new central unit.

If your PVR has an Optical Output then you will be able to hook that to your SONY DAV-S300. If it does not you will just be able to use the standard analog stereo connections. I included a picture of the Optical port on your SONY DAV-S300.

Sony DVP-S300 I have had this DVD player for close to ten years. It has always worked wonderfully. Lately it has been having problems reading DVD's. I will put in a disc and then it will give me the...

Alas, these are now "disposable" products. Your idea of cleaning the lens was the best shot. There are a LOT of moving parts in a DVD player, and they do fail over time. I'm thinking a new player is in your future. I wouldn't spend any time or money getting a 10-year old device repaired when I can buy a new one for less than $50.

Sony dav s-300 dvd.

Is the unit old enough to have some room dust inside fowling the DVD laser lens?
If open the case doesnt scare you then ..UNPLUG it from the AC outlet, remove the outer case screws and use some compressed CO2 on the DVD assembly. Spray at a distance of 8-10 inches.
If you can access the lens on the player, VERY lightly clean it with a swab of Isopropyl alcohol.

Most of the units I get with bad read problems get fixed that way

Cannot get "Test Mode Menu" with remote

Press and hold mute and return on the player and turn the volume control clockwise, the setup menu will appear after a few seconds.Go thru the menu and do the required disc calibration.Do not mess with settings you don't understand, else you'll create more problems than you solve.Have some good single, double layer DVD ,SVCD and CD for the calibration.

No disc message on DVD Player

What you might want to try before giving up would be to get a lens cleaning disc. If that does not work then you may have to take off the top, locate where the small laser lens is, and with a small cotton swab, soak slightly in alcohol, and in a swirling motion, clean the laser lens, now with the dry end, do the same. Wait a few minutes for all the residue to dry. Plug in the unit, and see if you made any differance. If you did GREAT!!. If not well at least you tryed, and there is not alot more you can do as a consumer, without test equipment, or speacial jigs. It most likly will not be worth taking into a repair shop, as these days these players are almost a dime a dozen!. Good Luck Ps Please do not forget to rate this.
