There are three battery type settings in the set up menu: Alkaline, COOLPiX(NiMH) and Lithium. Might be worth looking at. To be continued.

Upload/Share Videos to SmugMug-Convert Panasonic SD90 AVCHD MTS files to 1080p...

Compress/Shrink SD90 AVCHD MTS to MOV for SmugMug with Keep Highest Quality

I have a Panasonic Camcorder, HDC- SD90, which produces .mts files with 1920*1080 28Mbps. I record some more mts videos by sd90 and want to upload to SmugMug for sharing with my friends. SmugMug does a great job with MTS video, it supports 1080p HD and can take an MTS file directly. The upload times for an MTS file shot in 1080p (28Mbps!) though are too long, so I need to compress 1080/28Mbps video before uploading .To solve the problems, I recommend a professional program named Final Mate. This professional Camcorder Software - Final Mate can Convert/Shrink Panasonic AVCHD footages to MOV for Upload/Share Videos to SmugMug with best quality.

Below is the fast guide for you to Convert and Compress AVCHD files from Panasonic HDC-SD90 Camcorder to .MOV Videos with Highest Quality for Uploading/Sharing to SmugMug on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

Step 1. Get Panasonic HDC-SD90 1080/28Mbps AVCHD footage to Final Mate.
If you have already backup all your mts video recordings from Panasonic SD90 to your computer, you can browse your video path via "Add" and the software will automatically show your AVCHD clips in Resource Tab.

Step 2. Create a Movie for Convert Panasonic SD90 MTS Files.
For conveting Panasoni HDC-SD90 MTS files to mov and keep highest quality for uploading on SmugMug. First need to create a movie for conversion by selecting Add > For Conversion in Movies Tab for putting mts video clips on. Then select all the files from the Resource tab using Ctrl+A, drag and drop to the movie in Movies tab.

Step 3. Choose export format - Panasonic HDC-SD90 MTS to MOV for SmugMug Pro.
Click the Export button, and go to the Devices tab. Choose HD Video - H.264 HD Video(*.mov) for conversion .

Step 4. Set Video/Audio Quality and Export.
To get high quality videos, you can choose 1920*1080 size(pix),frame rate 25fps,medium quality as video bitrate and 256K audio bitrate before starting conversion. The quality loss is not significant, the videos still look great when viewed. Click OK to start Converting Panasonic SD90 AVCHD MTS files to 1080p MOV for SmugMug.

When the Panasonic SD90 MTS Videos to 1080p MOV conversion is done, you can quickly Upload Panasonic SD90 Recording MTS Video to SmugMug. I also keep the MTS files as a backup - these play OK locally in WMP and Popcorn Hour.

My camera will not zoom

Zoom motor or control assembly is responsible for the issue. If lens removable try another one to see if it is the lens or camera. Shame

Lens

You have a 55mm filter size on your camera, and the accessory lens requires a 62mm camera connection. I think you are looking through a 55mm tunnel into a 62mm lens (over-simplified I know). The black ring is the result, and I don't think you can fix that. Is the telephoto a Panasonic accessory, or a third party item. I think I already know the answer to that. I'd take it back and see what Panasonic recommends - you'd be happier. However, Panasonic has Leica glass (Leitz lenses) so it won't be cheap.

Telephoto lens for digital camera

It will not work because it is the wrong thread size. Here is info on the Olympus TCON-17 lens for the 5050: TCON-17 (1.7X) Telephoto Conversion Lens Extend the capabilities of your digital camera with the TCON-17 Telephoto Converter lens. This telephoto lens will increase the magnification of your subject by 1.7x when your camera lens is set to the telephoto position. This will help you bring in the subject when you can't get closer, for example, shooting sports or concerts. Please see below for additional items required to attach this lens to your camera. The following models require the CLA-1 and 43-55mm Step-Up Ring: C-2000/2020/2040/3000/3020/3030/3040/4000/4040/5050 Zoom ....... The video lens is too small (diameter). If you found one with a 43mm thread and put it on the 5050, you would experience severe vignetting (clipping of the corners of the photo).
