Hp 42 plasma tv cptoh 0602 I get sound but no picture

I had the same problem today, Hp wanted $629+tax to fix. With a little mechanical ablity anyone can fix this.
1. remove back covers
2. left-hand side is the video board
3. two white fuses
4. replace

this fixed mine and they only cost $1.50 each

HP is now fixing this problem for free. all you need to do is to call them, even if your warranty has expired. I have The same problem like you, and my warranty has expired, I just called them on Sep 19th 2008.

As described above, this problem is caused by something called a YSUS board going out. I'd try replacing the fuses. If that doesn't work, here's something else to try.

You can buy the replacement parts for about $300 dollars or there is a company that will fix the YSUS board. I don't have instructions yet for removing the YSUS board, but if you've got the skills or know someone who's good with electronics, you can fix the board for about $120. I've got the same problem with my 42 inch plasma TV. I called PTS Electronics today at 812-824-9331 (their website suggests you call 800-844-7871). I spoke to Kelly. She was very helpful, but said anybody at their number can help.
Kelly said that you do not need to call first to get a return authorization. To get the YSUS Board fixed, you need to remove yours and send it to the following address:

When you ship in, you should include a letter with the following information:
Your Name
Your Mailing Address
Your Phone Number
Payment info for the $122.60 to repair the board. If you want to pay with a credit card, note that in your letter and that you want them to call you. They'll call you to get your credit card info when they receive your board.

She suggested shipping via UPS and insuring the part when you ship it.

I learned some new things when I spoke to her. If you'd prefer to replace the board in your printer, you can use one of the following alternate parts to replace the YSUS board:

Out of the three alternate replacement parts, the only one they currently have available is the Toshiba part. They have it listed at $254 (I thought Kelly said $268 - maybe with shipping?) with a core value of $65 that you'll get back if you ship them your broken part. That leaves you paying roughly $200. Having them fix my part seems like a better option to me. Kelly also said that all these parts for the HP TV are refurbished parts - none of them are new - that's why they want you to send them your broken part.

Welcome to my world!! Almost been 3 years since we bought our HP PL4260N 42" Plasma TV-- and we had the EXACT same problem as everyone else. The screen went *pop* and gone... but we still had sound.

I called HP, knowing already what they'd say b/c of all the blogs I've read with everyone else having the same run-around about $600+ for a maintenance guy to come out up to 3 times. Even if they can't fix it, we would still be out almost $400 for the maintenance guy's fees. Ugh.

HP had escalated my call to a superior in the tech dept. and called me back, only to reiterate that since I didn't have an extended warranty, I was s.o.l. I took it upon myself at that point to explain that I'm not calling about some fluke-type of problem with a personal TV. This was epidemic among this particular plasma TV, as per all the blogs that came up about it. I explained that I simply Googled "HP plasma no picture" and BOOM! Every single thread was about people complaining about the PL4260N plasma from HP blowing the picture but still having sound. Hmmm... This isn't just a random lemon TV, in fact. This is a faulty line of products from HP. I assured her that she can roll her eyes and ***** about me after we hung up the phone, but to pass it along that I will make sure everyone I know gets the message about HP. That company needs a major overhaul. They've got my $2,000 and I have nothing. Maybe they can put that money to good use and actually try to make a product that works for once. I, however, will never be their guinea pig again. NO HP FOR ME.
I am going to find every thread about this and post my issue. HP didn't listen to me on the phone when I told them that it was all over Google. They said that's 1% of people with this TV having problems. I said, "You can use your verisimilitude all you want to... but I know better. These TVs were sold defective! And there's plenty of people who have been screwed over by you." They don't care. They simply DON'T CARE. They have your money. They're done with you.

The caps (capacitors) in the powerboard are going out. This is a very common problem in all class and price ranges of modern lcd and plasma tv's/ monitor's. I don't know if this problem has been like this for awhile or it just started, but either way, if the tv takes an abnormal amount of time to "warm" up then it most likely will go out all the way sometime in the (near) future. If you have a tiny bit of will and knowledge ypou can open the unit and get to the print board. Examine this for "popped" capacitors, they will have a buldging top instead of a flat one. Im gonna try to include a pic of them here, if i can get it this time, I've tried bfore lol. But you can google image a "popped" or "bad" capacitor and you would be able, with ease, to diagnose if you have any of these. Usually only one or two. Radioshack sells capacitors (couple anyway) for $1.59 each. MAKE SURE the replacement is of the SAME voltage or HIGHER, or you will be right back replacing those 2. Every capacitor has a negative pole marked with an (-) on the side of the capacitor(by one of the "legs", always puit the negative (-) "leg" of the new capacitor in the same hole in the printboard as where the previous negative (-) "leg" of the capacitor was ( a capacitor with the negative and positive "legs" put in backwards will result in the new piece "popping" as sson as you turn it on!!) make sure the "uf" rating (for example the most common popped capacitor is the 1000 uf) is the same as the one you are replacing. I needed 1000 uf, 105 c and 26v (volt) ratings for the 1 capacitor I needed to replace to fix my LG 19" lcd panel monitor I found by the trash that the light came on off, but it didn't come on. I replaced that capacitor with ; 1000uf, 85 c and 36 v (volts0...It works fine eventhough the volts and the temperature rating (36v and 85c) was not the same as the (26v(volt) and 105c ) capacitor I removed !! Further, I've replaced capacitors that had the celcius rating of 105 with the only ones Radioshack had, namely 85 c(celsius) they have been working great, but I'm not sure about any effect, nor have I heard or read (yet?) about that making an urgent difference. Many threads that I've read people have done the same, so we should be ok (my stuff has been running good for a while longer then most brand new ones!.............(all these ratings ; 'uf ' and 'c' etc are on the side of the capacitor you are replacing and on the side of the ones you are replacing them with)...For all this all you need is the cheapest solder gun u can find (I bought one for $7.99 at Radioshack), a camera (to take pictures as you go to remember how to reassemble the unit) and, once you have your materials, 20 minutes to replace 2 or 3 capacitors and you are good to go...Most monitors and tvs (lcd/plasma) I've seen you have to lay flat on the ground/bed/blanket etc, to work on (screen side down). Usually there are 2 or 3 screws (or a few more) to remove, then you will have to carefully (its comes off easily most times)insert a flat screwdriver inbetween the casing and gently pry it up as you go around the whole frame. Sometimes you have to remove the little washer arouind the cable input orso, just be gentle and you cant go wrong. Once insidet here will be a box with wires running to the sides etc...unplug, gently, these wires and open the box. Inside you will find 2 or 3 circuitboards, check them all for "popped" capacitors, replace, reassemble and plug it in....Have fun becoming an overnight tv mechanic lol!

Damn - this morning the TV worked, and now, its the same problem you guys are having... almost exactly 3 years from the time of purchase. I will try calling HP and rant to them, but can I have the model# for the fuses I have to replace?

HP not helping any more. My serial number was not listed as one of the "AFFECTED" tv's. I have same problem as everyone else. POP and then no picture only sound. Tech walked me through how to "UNPLUG" my tv---Thank goodness, I dont know if I could have figured it out myself. Then he told me there was nothing he could do but send a tech for $629. He did not care that web was full of the same issue for this tv. Said "it happens over time".

Beside replacing fuses, check if an IC on Y-Sus Board (left side from back TV view) is short-circuit or not. This IC (below a big Heat Sink) has some labels on the solder side. If you have a Multimeter check if VS and VA are short-circuit with GDN. If it so, you must replace this IC (50 dlls), if you have good skills with soldering iron. Good luck!
