Time and date are not set correctly

When the Date and Time is set in the BIOS setup or in Windows and when you boot up next time and the date and time are incorrect then the problem is a flat BIOS battery. A flat BIOS battery cannot keep the Data and Time stored in the BIOS. Replace the BIOS battery and set the Date and Time etc and the problem will be fixed.

Error 00161 00163

[CHANGE YOUR CMOS BATTER WHICH IS INSIDE YOUR CPU CASE]
I do not think you fixed the CMOS battery - (backup battery = CMOS battery)
According to the error codes, you have a dead backup battery and the time is not set. Makes sense?
161
(Dead battery.) 1. Go to Checking the Backup Battery
2. Backup battery.
3. System board.
163
(Time and date were not set.) 1. Set time and date.
2. System board.

Go to www.ibm.com Find and download the user manual, and the "hardware maintenance manual."
Do you know how to get into bios/setup?

Start with the machine OFF. HOLD DOWN and CONTINUE TO HOLD THE "F1" key.
WHILE STILL HOLDING "F1", turn the power on, and CONTINUE TO HOLD "F1"
This will get you into the bios "setup." You should check the date, bootup order, etc, and reset.
I would check the "wire" you think you reconnected---you may just not have actually reconnected it.
The "hardware maintenance manual" shows you how to maintain this machine, and it explains the meaning of the error codes.

This will get you started on looking for the manual:

Ibm thinkpad

The 161 CMOS error means the CMOS/BIOS battery is dead/flat and needs to be replaced.
The 163 CMOS error means the Date and Time could not be updated when you change the Date and Time setting. This is caused by the flat CMOS/BIOS battery.
When you replace the battery with a new one, the BIOS will go back to the default settings, go into to BIOS setting (press F2 when you boot up) and change the Date and Time, then save and exit.

It says there are error codes 163, 8611, and 163 time and date pop up but if you try and pass that it freezes and shuts down again. please help

The 163 error is a BIOS Date & Time error. Go tinto the BIOS setting and set the Date & Time. If you boot up the next time and you get the same error, this is cause by a flat BIOS battery, replace with a new battery.
The 8611 error relates to the PS2 mouse bus connector, try a new mouse or use a USB mouse.

Every time I log on the error173 and 163 appear. What do I do?

Your BIOS backup battery is dead and needs to be replaced.
Go HERE for the manual , page 67.
And HERE is a link to the battery, or google 02k6502 if you dont like the price.
If that doesnt do it , its the motherboard.
Here are the codes from the manual.
163
(Time and date were not set.)
1. Set time and date.
2. System board.
173
(Configuration data was lost.)
1. Select OK in the error screen; then set the time and date.
2. Backup battery.
3. System board.

Hope that helps.
