Digital Resolution for 4x6

Have a JVC GR-DV500U digital camcorder that does stills at 1.33 megapixels. The camera does stills ranging from 1600*1200 down to 640*480; settings range from Fine to Standard/automatic and manual. I would like to know the best resolution for 4x6" prints and/or manual vs automatic. In advance, thanks.

If you reckon 300 dpi on a printer printing 6X4 is a good enough resolution, then 6X300 = 1800 and 4X300 =1200 . 1800 x 1200 = 2.16 mega pixel then that is the camera you need.Probably your 1.3 megapixel shots won't be that good for printing.

You will need all the pixels the camera can produce so set the camera for 1600 x 1200 Fine. That should produce a good 4 x 6 print. I can't help with auto/manual as I do not know what they do on that camera.

I have a JVC Digital video camera model GR-DV500U I'm trying to connect to my computer with a dv cable. my computer handles the 6 pin but the 4 pin for the camcorder is to large for the connection. Can't...

I presume that you are using desk top computer, thus it has bigger connector. Solution, have find this connector so that one end fit to your cam and the other end fits to your PC. This connector have the same format(protocol) and easy to find in computer store. USB streaming is ok for this model for earlier windows OS, haven't try with windows 7 yet. hope it helps

Minimum illumination(low lux)-not with night shot on!

most sonys are 0-4 and i'd say yours is around 4-8-if 8mm cam will be much better in low light-mini dv would be worse

Can it use a digital card?

the card is used only for still photos. it can capture photos at a low resolution 640x480 - so not a substitute for a 3mp camera, but useful if you need to get some stills in for reference or on screen only use.

Jvc gr-dv500u

Dirty video head! Playback newly opened blank tape for five minutes, after that eject, reinsert, playback then eject again five times, these will serve as your video head cleaner, never use "video head cleaning cassette tape" for it will only damage your camera. Most camera has built in video head cleaner installed inside and activates only when you insert, initial play/rec, and ejects a tape. If the problem is still there you need pro fix then.[:0)
