Yes, if the camera is a US camera then it is NTSC. That would be your problem, you are trying to record an NTSC signal to a PAL video. THe frame rates and resolutions are all wrong. I am even surprised that it is playing back on your TV okay...

Audio cuts out cyclical video playback unaffected

what model cam, if its mini dv and playback has audio cutting out then the cam that originally recorded the video had slightly off tracking and can only be fixed by playing back from the same cam that recorded it

Play back poor now Camcorder does not record

The head is dirty or bad - insert a brand new blank tape in the camcorder and perform a record through the entire tape without stopping the process until it finishes the record all the way through - this should clean the heads. Playback a pre-recorded tape. If it plays back ok then attempt an actual record. If unsuccessful, then the heads are bad.

Cannot record due to a black screen

OK, that means you can see clear picture in playback of old recorded tapes and camcorder just wont give you live view to record any more.
If its true then it is known problem/ failure of ccd imager in your JVC GR-D33 camcorder.
JVC will repair it free of cost, click JVC CCD Imager Advisory for details.
Thanks.

I need a VHS adapter for the JVC Mini DV tapes

not available - the tapes are different widths for a start, and the two formats use different compression techniques. Adapters are available for VHS-C to VHS because the tape width and the recording format are the same.

SLOW DOWN PLAYBACK MODE

You cannot play SVHS tapes on a standard VHS machine. Your solution is to either:
1. Buy an SVHS Home unit (not a great idea)
2. Use regular VHSC tapes in your camcorder (these will playback fine in your existing home unit).
3. Hook your camcorder directly into your TV and use the camera as a playback device.

Noise block doring playback of D-VHS tapes

* Do not record program in DVHS mode on an S-VHS cassette. Use of S-VHS cassettes will not allow for maximum performance and may result in head clogging. Use only D-VHS cassettes as recommended in the instruction manual on page 27. * Make sure that the DIGITAL 3-DNR lamp is ON when playing back a cassette recorded in D-VHS mode. If not press DIGITAL 3-DNR so that the DIGITAL 3-DNR indicator illuminates. * When block noise appears on the TV screen, clean the video heads with the DFC-2 D-VHS Head Cleaning Cassette (continue up to 3 minutes total). Please refrain from using any other head cleaning cassettes as drum damage may result.
