What size of drill to use?
If you can get a good deal on a 3/8 drill you can always change the chuck to 1/2" later i did

if you trap the chuck in a bench vice or alike and then use the drill in reverse in short bursts until it loosens a good spray with wd40 will also aid the situation

the basic operation for the drill working in the drill only mode is you tighten the clutch up which puts more pressure on the spring not allowing the clutch to ratchet like it would in another position therefore bypassing the clutch completely.
