Question about Sony STR-DE485 Receiver

1 Answer

Hello, I have a Sony STR-D85 surround sound system. I need to connect my phone to the system so that my phone's music plays through my surround sound speakers. The front of the console has a headphone jack labeled "phones..." I stuck a headphone adapter in there, then plugged my phone in through a double-sided headphone wire. It connects perfectly, but plugging it in instantly brings a "Speakers off" light onto the front of the console. How can I get it so the speakers are on and the music plays, or is there anywhere else I could plug it into the console. I am willing to buy a cable, if necessary.

Headphone jack is an output not input jack. Your going to need a cord to go from your headphone jack(output) of your phone to audio input on your receiver. The cord has a mini stereo plug to the phone and RCA plugs of left and right to your receiver auxiliary input. Good luck..

Buy a 3.5 mm-to-RCA audio cable (you will probably need a long one). Plug the 3,5 mm. end of the cable into the headset jack of your laptop and the RCA end of the cable into the RCA/composite (R/L) audio input of your receiver.

Sony DAV-DZ560 Can I use a record deck and put it through the surround sound to play vinyl's

Shouldn't be a problem as long as you get a record player with a built-in preamp. Old record players did not have a preamp, and will not output a signal at a high enough level to be used through the sony system.

Where can I get an AC power cable for the Sony STR-DB 798 surround sound receiver?

Hello
AC cables can be bought from most of the electronic spare part shops. You have to note the input plug of your Sony device. There are so many types of them according to the country to which they are supposed to release. I don't know where are you from now. Check the cable's pin to suite your devices' AC input socket. Select a best quality one. Thet is all to be in mind. OK.

Sony receiver made pop noise and all sound systems went mute.what are my options? STR-DE425 sony receiver with surround sound, dvd player,cd player and tv all connected thru receiver...

It sounds like the output ic's may have failed, because of the complexity of system I would have a professional come and look at the unit for an evaluation, chances are he will need to take it back to the shop for service.

Can't get Playstation3 sound through the STR-DG800 using HMDI.

Do you have your ps3 connected to the TV with HDMI and then audo cables from the TV to the receiver? If so, you need to make sure you change the audio settings on your TV to surround sound.

No play back from HDTV to threater system

Do you have set-top-box or antenna-cable directly to TV?
You have connected TV with received via HDMI, but that won't work in this direction - TV has HDMI INput only, not output.
You can use HDMI to connect HDMI-out on DVD player for example to HDMI-in on receiver and HDMI-out of receiver to HDMI-in on TV.
But to get sound from TV to the receiver, use spdif optical or coax cable if TV supports that - this way you will get surround sound.
But also your connection via analog white/red RCA plugs should work, but only for stereo sound.

NO SURROUND SOUND WHEN PLAYING BLU-RAY

Your amplifier should "downgrade" the signal to 5.1, even if the disc isn't using it. It is most likely a setting on your amp that may need adjusting for "types" of digital to accept on its input. If you can, set your optical input on your amp to "auto". This way it will automatically detect and switch for the proper incoming audio feed
