My dryer does not shut off and doesn't get hot. It takes almost 5 hours to dry a load of clothing.

Sorry to say but it sounds like the heating element is on its way out... Happened to ours and repair was more than a new dryer so we brought a new one

Our 4 cycle whirlpool dryer runs for 5 -10 minutes gets hot and shuts off.

check to see if the dryer vent is clogged up - When a dryer gets to hot it will shut off to prevent catching fire!!! If the vent is clogged it forces the heat from the dryer to stay in and that causes the dryer to over heat!!!

You didn't mention if the dryer is getting hot.

If is getting hot, then shutting off, I agree with you.

If it is NOT getting hot, I would suspect the IGNITER ASSY

Gas dryer get hot but than goes cold

This sounds like a problem with your fan motor. The dryer is getting too hot and the gas is shutting off until it cools down. That fan keeps the dryer cool by moving the heat to the clothes in the drum.
You can easily check this by feeling for air flow in front of the exhaust vent outside. No air movement = fan problem = heat shut off in 10 minutes. Good luck

Maytag electric dryer keeps shutting off.Dryer gets hot. Repairman replaced the motor but still having the same problem.Could it be a sensor?

Generally if the motor shuts off it is because of the overprotector on the motor opening up to save the motor. When the motor cools down the overload will close and the motor will work again.

If the unit is getting so warm the motor is shutting off check to make sure the rollers are working properly and moving freely.

Dryer gets hot and shuts down for about 25 minutes b4 starting

The 'high limit' is tripping> Clean the lint filter and tube all the way in, it's full of lint and the hot air is restricted.

Frigidaire dryer overheating and shutting off mid cycle

Usually dryers have the exact opposite problem where the heat does not come on. Because most dryers have thermocouples (rated at 150 & 185 degrees) to prevent the dryer from getting too hot. You may have the blower fan come off of the motor. Check and see if you have air moving out of the vent. Also unplug the dryer and take the back off and inspect the area where it is getting hot. It may be some wires touching the case. Sometimes you can see the problem or smell something getting too hot. Either way be carefull. A dryer that overheats is a fire hazard!

My dryer smells hot and shuts off it is a Maytag model LDE8406ACE

This happens when the dryer gets too hot and a thermal breaker (or thermal fuse) kicks in. The most likely problem is that the exhaust vent for the dryer is plugged up with lint either within the dryer itself or in the part that is in your wall and exits someplace outside (could be as far as the roof). When the hot air can't escape the dryer overheats and shuts itself off to prevent a fire.
