Maytag neptune dryer modell md5500. Electirc dryer, contorl panle lights up, heat comes on but drum does not turn.

Could be either the belt, or the belt tensioner spring

Remove the dryer vent hose from the vent.

Test the dryer again with the vent hose off.

If the dryer then works properly it tells you you have a build up of lint in the dryer vent.

Cleaning out the dryer vent will then solve the problem

check your burner make sure it is clean, if it is dirty either blow it out or vacuum it out. If it still don't ignite it may be the thermo copuler. Hope this helped Tim

Remove the top

First remove door. Remove the screws holding the front panel on (inside door recess), pull panle from top down and remove and set aside. Remove the 2 5/16 screws hold top down located at left and right sides. Lift top up for easy access.

Did you cheak for dead short by touching one end of the element and one end on the heater housing?if there is continuity then you have a dead short .The lint is normal just clean it out.You may have a bad insultor that the element runs true in the heater housing.Also cheak the wires for dead short very carfully with flash light hope this helped:)
