SOURCE: my Sear Kenmore washing macbine will barely

Take and turn the agitator by hand. It should only turn one way. If the agitator will turn freely either way, then you will need to replace the "agitator dogs" that go in the top of the agitator. Take a look at this video.

Maytag top loader won't agitate. will fill and spin

Hello,

Try this:
When the washer should be agitating, try turning your load size switch back and forth a few times. If you are on a medium load, going to a larger load should cause it to begin filling again, going to a smaller size should start the motor for agitate. If this works, your pressure / water level sense switch is okay, but the switch for load size is faulted / or is on its way out. If you went from a medium load, to a higher load, then your pressure switch is faulted as well.

The agitator is barely moving - I am not sure if is fully engaging during the wash cycle? How can I check it out?

If the agitator is working it will move slightly, then back - over and over again and cause the water to, well, agitate.

If you have the machine set to delicates it might not come on full force.

Usually you can check it out by opening the lid during a wash cycle.

If it's barely moving then you might have drive/belt issue.

Washing machiene agitator can only handle small loads

The dogs are not the problem. Assuming you have the series that uses dogs, the problem would be either: a broken motor coupling that barely grabs and can move the agitation with a small load but not with anything substantial (of which it will soon slip 100% of the time and nothing will move), or the clutch is worn and slipping---- just like a bad transmission in a car; when you go on level ground, the car has no problem, but start to go up an incline and the trans cannot do the job because it slips too much. Replacing the clutch/transmission assembly of the washer is no easy task. In either case, you need to remove the motor & pump assembly; this will give you a chance to see the coupling (if it has broken fingers). If the problem is not the coupling, you need to go to the center of the machine; the trans/clutch/shaft assembly and have good tools to handle it. A big word of advise: replace the coupling even if it does not look too bad because they go bad easily and are cheap to replace while you have it all apart. Good Luck. Macgivor.
