2003 chevy silverado, cd/cassette/radio, has no volume, it lights up, all the dials appear to be working with no sound at all, like it is muted. I can't find a mute button listed in the manual. My daughter was pushing buttons on it yesterday, is there a combination that will mute the radio?

Sometimes these radios have what is called a logic lock up. First thing to try is to remove BOTH positive and negative cables from the battery. Then while holding both cables away from the battery, touch the metal ends of the cables together and hold for 20 seconds. This will usually reset locked electronic modules. Hook them back up to the battery and try radio.

SOURCE: 2003 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 radio

Does it has a remote ? See if it's on mute ...

I am sure that the problem lies with the wiring of the stereo system. You need to check each and every wire of the new system. If the problem continues then try out the audio functions of the PRE. I hope they have a warranty

Double check the wires, you thought were for each speaker. There may be a common wire for a set of two speakers. When you state "it works" are you basing it on the fact the dial light comes on...the lights are on a separate power circuit

Check your fuses before you do anything that is a simple and cheap fix and most of the time is the problem.

Also Access vehicle's battery. Using appropriate socket insert, remove negative battery lead. Insulate using electrical tape.

Use appropriate radio keys/socket/screwdrivers to access rear of radio (head unit).

Locate white cylindrical fuse holder for radio (head unit). Unscrew and check fuse. If metal piece in fuse is broken, remove and replace with same value. Keep radio out of dash for future steps.

If sound hasn't returned, locate system fuse (should be located within 18" of vehicle's battery). Remove and check. If brown "smoky" material is visible, it is probably blown. Remove and replace.

Using appropriate socket insert, re-attach negative lead to vehicle's battery.

With radio still removed from Step 3 (Section 2), locate blue remote turn-on wire. If external amplifier is present, this should be coming from head unit's harness.

If radio turns on, but external amplifier (if present) does not, turn off radio.

Using wire cutters, snip remote lead from head unit's remote turn-on lead.

Using vehicle's electrical schematic, locate "ACC" wire. This is the wire that energizes small electrical accessories when the vehicle is turned on.

Using wire crimp tool, connect remote turn-on wire and "ACC" wire, located from Step 9 (Section 2) with 16 gauge plastic T-tap connector.

Re-start vehicles engine and check for sound. Consider professional assistance if nothing is heard.

Hope it helped..

I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado Ext Cab Z71, no sound is coming out

Seat belt and any warning chimes do not come from the radio, they usually come from a unit under the dash, what you are describing is probabl;y a blown fuse problem. I would checkfuses with a teat light as some fuses may not appear blown.
