Arcam alpha 7 amplifier goes back into standby when volume is turned up

Vry recently when playing both cds and records my amp intermitantly started going into standby and coming back out again. Today when turning up the volume while playing a record it went into standby and had to be switched off, when switched on again it operated OK for a minute and then went back into standby. I checked it and it does the same when playing CDs

Hi,
Can you, or can someone you know, check for DC voltage on the speaker terminals when the amp is on, but not playing? Ideally, the meter should read 0mV with no signal, and certainly less than +/- 10mV. Anything over +/- 30mV is worth having checked out, especially if it changes as you turn the volume knob with no signal applied.

I have an amplifier, ARCAM AVR250. I switch it on, i see stanbye mode and a click and then 1 second after it goes back off, no nothing on screen. Transistors output good on meter.Looks like new in.

Disconnect all the cables (except power) and see if it still shuts off. If it does, there is probably internal problem. If not, re-connect speakers one at a time to determine if there's any short

Arcam Alpha 10 amp only seems to be working on one channel can somebody suggest how to repair

See if the Speaker is blown or check for fuses on the back of the amps. Next switch the speaker wires at the back of the amp. Still no change? then switch the amp to aux input . Put a RCA jack in the aux input, then turn it on. Tap the end of the jumper wire with your finger tip , and check if you get a hum out of the dead channel if you do not then touch the wire to the metal cabinet of the amp. Check for a hum. If so then the pre-amp or tuner amp is not working. Good Luck, Bill

Arcam A65 amplifier keep on go to standymode why?

Depending on the volume level and how many speakers you are driving factor into how the amp will react. Check the speaker wires for shorts, if okay! then we must look at the audio output stage, if the semiconductors are getting to hot, the satety circuits will cause a shutdown, if you run a pair of speakers the amp will run cooler, if you recently added more speakers that would explain the shutdown, if not! there is a problem in the audio output transistors and ic's that will need to be dealt with.

Hi, my arcam alpha 7r turns on fine (orange light turns green) when you try and up the volume it clicks out and green goes back to orange, and the rear right hand side gets far too warm. thanks for any...

You may have problems with one of your speakers,or with the wires that go to the speakers.
Try turning it on with no load, remove ALL the speaker wires and up the volume and see what it does.....If the amp does the same with the spakers removed ,it means that the amp is faulty,
if nothing goes wrong connect the speaker one by one until it fails and you will find out which speaker is faulty, Also check the impedance on the spakers to be the same asthe impedance recomended for that amp (If u connected two or more speakers per chanel have in mind that if u put them in parallel the impedance goes down two 8 ohms speakers equal one of 4 ohms)... ,you may be overloading the amp

Hi -

Sony CD player Red / White RCA - > CD input RCAs on the Arcam.

From the Arcam Preamp Output RCA's, go to the Bose "Input". From the Bose "Output", you need RCA splitters to make them into four outputs to run your amplifier connections.clmrt5000_2.jpgclmrt5000_3.jpg

My 1997 ARCAM Alpha 10 Preamp when its turned on the green power light comes on, then it quickly clicks off and goes red? Whats the problem?

an inside protection circuit is causing ur amp to click off. this may happen due to bad power amp, fault somewhere on power unit, speaker impedance mismatch, system shutting down due to over heating. if u have no idea it is best u get it checked by a qualified technician.

Arcam avr 300 keeps switching off intermitently, and the red standby light flashes.

I wonder if anyone can help explain what the likely problem will be with my Arcam AV300 amp. Whilst watching TV for no particular reason an extremely loud (what i can only describe as feedback) sound comes out of my B & W speakers for approximately 3 seconds, then silence as the Arcam switches off, I’m then unable to switch it back on for a period of time, (this varies between 5minutes to a few hours) when it eventually switches back on everything seems to be working perfectly. This has happened quite a number of times although it’s intermittent & occurring every 1 - 6 weeks.

A better solution is like I have mine; use the Arcam 10 connected to the tweeters of your speakers & the power Amp connected to the woofers & link the pre out's on the 10 to the power Amp. using phono cables. The Manual can be downloaded from Arcams discontinued section of their website.
This Bi-Amp method gives a far superior sound than just using the 10 as a pre Amp.
