Check oil level immediately after fill- ing the reservoir. To check oil, bend an ordinary pipe cleaner into a 1/2" long hook and dip it into the oil reser- voir. If oil touches the end of the pipe cleaner, the fan has ample oil. If it does not touch, add SAE 10 non-detergent oil slowly until it touches the pipe cleaner.
Your Original Hunter's unique lubricating system
The bearings are submerged in a bath of oil. The oil moves up a spiral groove in the shaft, lubricating all bearing surfaces as the fan operates. This Lubrication System does not normally "use up" or require the addition of extra oil once the oil reservoir has been filled to the correct level. This unique lubrication system is one reason your Original Hunter Ceiling Fan will last a lifetime. It is highly unlikely that you will ever need to add oil to your Original fan once it is installed. Should you move your fan to another location, it is a good idea to check the oil reservoir. Hunter has developed an accessory 'Original Relocation Kit' that includes all mounting hardware and a fresh tube of oil for this reason. The model number is 22360. CAUTION: DO NOT TURN FAN ON UNTIL LUBRICATION HAS BEEN ADDED. TO OPERATE THE FAN WITHOUT OIL OR WITH LOW OIL WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY
Adding oil
Your fan has been shipped without oil in the motor. A 1-ounce tube of high grade SAE 10 non-detergent oil is packaged in the sack parts. All the oil in the tube must be put into the fan. Cut the tip off the tube and place the tube into the oil hole. To avoid overflowing during filling, allow oil to gravity flow about one minute to fill the oil reservoir. (It may be necessary to puncture the tube to allow air in.)
Put some oil in and turn blades by hand to lubricate the bearings. If the motor is frozen, then you would have to take it to a service center or send back to Hunter for repair.
You don't. There's no place to oil ANY ceiling fan, not just the Hunter line. All ceiling fans use sealed ball bearings in the motors. They are lubricated for life. If you're experiencing a squealing noise, it would be best to take it down, pack if up and take it back where you bought it. No ceiling fan should squeal, let alone one as expensive as a Hunter.
Sounds like a good ol' American made Hunter Original to me. BEST and most powerful residential ceiling fan (high quality) ever made. The RPM spec is 200-160-50 for the respective speeds, moving 10,500 CFM on high speed. Most ceiling fans barely crack 5,000 CFM. they were built for Brute Force Air Movement and they really don't do well for small spaces. Both controls will lower the Medium speed to about 100-110 rpm, which should be much more comfortable for you.
Because the Hunter Original (I know your fan is an American made unit by your wire colors) draws more current than other fans, the Original controls are the only controls that are designed to work with your fan. Other controls do not have the current capacity for the Original motor.
Assuming these ceiling fans are infact the 23827 Hunter Original, did you put the bottle of oil which came with the fan in them? The Hunter original requires this bottle of oil for lubrication. If you had them installed, the installer may have not put the oil in.
with the motor/s off, spin the blades. Do they spin for a long time, or do they come to a stop quickly? If these fans were just installed, the biggest likelyhood is that the bearings are seizing from lack of lubrication.

-Hunter Original fans rarely/ never need oil unless they were relocated or tipped. ...Or if the fan was improperly installed.
-Hunter sells an oil refill / oil level check kit with good instructions. They also sell a relocation kit that includes the same kit plus all mounting hardware needed.
