To record DVD to hard drive, you need a DVD copier. Here Leawo DVD Copy will be recommended. It is a powerful DVD backup tool for people to back up their DVD contents with ease. What's more. it's capable of backing up DVD disc, folder and ISO image files. It can remove DVD disc protection thus allowing you to back up whatever disc you like freely. You can use it to back up your DVD disc to either your hard drive or a blank disc or directly copy ISO image file to a blank DVD disc.

Look for an option in the DVD menu for dubbing this means to copy contents to hdd (usually cannot do it with copy protected discs but will be ok with a disc you made yourself)

You can finalise any disk on a computer as this will close out the session and make it playable. If you software wont directly let you directly finalise it, then copy the files to the computer and then burn them as a video disk. Nero will do this.

Copying dvd to hard drive so i can copy i have a family dvd that i would like to copy how do i do it

It really depends on the DVD content. Commercial DVDs are copy-protected, and unless you have specialized (and usually *******) software, you copy attempts will not work. Home-recorded DVDs can be copied, but again, content is key. You can do something as simply as copy the files to the hard drive and re-burn them to the new DVD, but that will produce a DVD that will work in a PC but might not work in a DVD player is there is video content to be watched. You can copy the disc as a single-file ISO, which provides an exact copy of the disc. To do that you'll need a program that can make and burn ISO files. There are a number a free ones available out there, just be careful what you go for as some are known to be accompanied by adware.

I am trying to record with a sony dvd-r disc and the recorder don't recognize it. the only disc that works is the dvd ram 4.7 but that disc does not work on other standard dvd players. what is the answer?

According to the official description of that recorder, you should have no problem, this is from the description for the DMRES15:

Recordable DVD Media

Record your favorite shows onto DVD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+RW, and DVD-RAM DVD discs. The DMR-ES15 is also compatible with DVD+R Double layer media and provides up to 14 hours of media recording.

Multi-Format Player

Don't worry about limited playback capabilities, the DMR-ES15 can play DVD, DVD-RW (VR Mode), DVD-RW (Video Mode), DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-RAM, VCD and CD-DA discs. Also, you can play your favorite songs from CDs or MP3 files, and JPEG images.

Is it possible to copy all the files from my dvd recorder to removable media such as dvd's or a portable hard drive? i would like to back up all the family albums etc

If you have a computer with a dvd writer, there is no need to use an external DVD recorder to copy discs. The DVD software on your computer will have a way to temporarily record a disc to hard drive then allow you to insert a blank disc for recording.
A consumer DVD recorder will not have this capability. There is usually no way to output digital files; the machines are intended for playback to a TV.

Magnavox H2160MW9 VHS tape "recording not allowed" to hard drive

RIAA has prodded the electronics manufacturers into putting copy protection into their recorders. You are allowed one copy, I believe, and you will be able to make it to a DVD-R in VR mode. VR mode protects (how? dunno) the recording from being copied a second time. DVD-RAM and DVD-R (maybe -RW) in VR mode should allow you to make your copy.

Errors burning to 1x to 16x DVD-R

I have had much luck recording on off brand 16X discs as follows:

1) Record a "dummy" program on the hard drive, need only about 15 or 20 seconds.

2) Put a blank disk in drive, and COPY that dummy program to disk. Do not finalize.

3) After a minute or so, window will come up and say "Cannot
complete copy."

4) Now while above window on screen, click HOME MENU, COPY, New program list, Select your movie/program to copy, go ahead and finalize, and START.

5) Think you'll find this is successful, however there might be some brands of blank disks that won't work.

6)Let me know if it works for ya. [email protected]

Recording from Hard dive to Disc

You can download a copy of the user manual from the Panasonic website .

To copy files from the HDD to a DVD disc, insert the DVD then press 'Functions' on the remote. From there select the 'Copy' feature and select the items you want to copy. There is also an 'Advanced Copy' available in the 'To Others' menu.
