Question about Intervideo WinDVD 5 for PC

Open Question

InterVideo Win DVD 5 used to be able to play DVDs. However, now it opens when I put a DVD in, but when I push play nothing happens. Is this a driver problem or is it possible that some how settings on my computer got changed when I was trying to play download files from the web? Any help would be appreciated. PMC

SOURCE: Difficulty playing DVD movie clips

Hi, it depends on the type of movie clips you have on the disk. its possible they maybe avi files. To play on most dvd players you would need to convert them to mpeg 2 which is the format for dvd movies, you can google for software, or if you need more help go to Normski

SOURCE: win dvd 5 came with computer when i purchased it.

can it read data files inside a dvd disc or any cd? if not, you might need to clean the lens using a cd lens cleaner or a soft cloth. Or the cd drive might be defective, which is common sometimes with 1 yr old machines and up

SOURCE: can't play dvd in my sony vaio laptop

The Vaio / Sony combo DVD drives are renowned to be some of the worst on the market. Sony puts the cheapest cr*p in their laptop and it should be no surprise that after a couple of reads (10+) and writes (10+), your combo drive will be as good as junk... dead weight in your laptop. You'll also hear strange repetitive noises coming from it. I have 3 solutions:
1) Go to the Vaio support site, type your model number to get its page and search DVD upgrade firmware. This should 2 files. One is a .bin and the other is an executable to flash the drive with that .bin file. If the problem still persists then bad news.
2) Buy a USB2 external combo drive. This should be real cheap nowadays.
3) Check impactcomputers for a replacement internal drive. Prices have come down but still quite pricey.

Also if you can let those f*cks at Vaio know what you had to go through, that'd be great.

I have been given my computer by my son (it is a Sony Vaio) and it played dvds when he owned it.It is a while since a dvd has been inserted but when I did nothing happened

ok Fred did your son pass along any cd's for the machine, look in that plastic envelope he dropped on you and said you will never need them. In there is a WinDVD 5 cd install cd, slide that bad boy in and let auto start load it on the machine. If its not there tell JR to find it when he does install it or have him get his **** over to do it he took it off to put another DVD program on. And after that tell him to take you out to the web page for it and updated it because if i remember its going for about $59 bucks

How do i play dvd on computer???

If your computer came with a CD/DVD drive, it should also have the software to pay a DVD. Just put one in and try.

If it can't read the DVD, it probably isn't a CD/DVD drive and you will have to get a new drive to play them. If your drive says CD/DVD on the drawer itself, you should be able to go to the manufacture's website of your PC and download a driver. You can also download software like Intervideo to decode and play DVDs.

DVD Drive not being recognized as a DVD drive

That is not unusual.
Several of my CD/DVD drives are listed as CD drives.
They still play and write DVDs.
The problem is cosmetic and not worth spending time on.

Now if you are trying to play a DVD movie you are going to need a CODEC (Coder/Decoder).
Windows XP does not include a CODEC to play DVD movies.
I use Intervideo WinDVD.

I hope this helps.

I have movies on dvd, i have a dvd rom in my pc,i go to my computer and click on the dvd to play and it doesnt play, windows media player comes on like its loading but nothinh happens

What operating system do you have? If you have Vista, you may be missing the codec you need. I'd recommend getting Intervideo WinDVD or something similar for watching DVDs. You'll have much more control and a better viewing experience than using Microsoft's crappy player.

Please help, my Averatec 3200 does not play dvds.

Try to use a dvd player software like winows media player (included in windows), just put the dvd in and it will ask about what to do, just select to play with media player and you can enjoy. (double click to put it fullscreen)
If nothing happens after inserting the disc than push start menu button go to programs and windows media player should be there somewhere, or in start menu push run and type wmplayer and than push enter. Than open the dvd with it.
