Put a Windows XP disk (has to be the full version not an upgrade) into the CD drive and the computer will ask to "press any key to boot from CD". Press a key. Follow the prompts, It is important to delete the partition when asked. Then recreate it. Format the drive with NTFS file system. The setup will go on to reinstall windows automatically.

Now, the only challenge is to reload any software drivers for components Windows does not find automatically. This is a little tricky. Do google search of Acer drivers or go to www.drivers.com.

Also, remember all your software programs need to be re-installed. For example, your Microsoft Office (word, excel, etc). Any games, any virus protection, Quickbooks, etc. The printer software also needs to be re-installed. Hopefully you still have the original disk or if its a Hewlett Packard go to their website.

Chances are that your laptop has a CD burner and a DVD rom which only reads DVD's but will burn regular CDs

The laptop should have come with CD/DVD burning software preloaded. Acer's specs page for your model says it comes with NTI Media Maker. The program will have help information available to guide you through, and you can find more help online. If you just want to write data files onto a DVD, the process typically is not much more than dragging files to a layout window and telling the program to burn the disc. This gives you a way to back up data, or to store movies in formats you can view on a computer (AVI, MPG, etc.).

On the other hand, if you're asking how to make a video DVD that will play in a regular DVD player like a commercial movie, maybe with features like menus or scene selection and such, the process for making that kind of DVD is more involved. You need some DVD authoring software. NTI may offer that capability, but I'll admit I have never looked.

If you have a dvd burner, you need software to burn dvd's. VSO is good and simple software to use, i think they have a sample.

I would suggest a new laptop. Windows Vista is no longer supported by Microsoft. A new router and laptop that both use the ac standard should help with your connection issues. A wifi extender can be used if the router's signal does not reach far enough.

Ok so here goes.... I had the same problem:

Go to the 'start' button and then hit the 'control panel' option, then click 'mouse' then go to 'Device Settings' and then to the 'settings'. When you get to this screen it shows a list on lthe left hand side choose the 'tapping' option and then ok.

am very sure its on an xp operating software funny enough you cant also uninstall it.the best thing is to format haaha not with all that document you have.so just simply get another players like vlc,gom.etc

The specifications of this laptop states that it has a Dual layer DVD R/W drive. This drive can only play DVDs and CDs but not BluRay discs and it can burn single and dual layer DVDs and CDs.

If you want to play DVD from any region you maybe able to upgrade the firmware to make it region free BUT if you make a mistake or installed the wrong firmware the player will be a piece of junk.
The best solution to make the player region free is to install a piece of software that allows you to play DVDs from any region. There are several available on the Internet but my favourite is DVD-Region Free

If you hear a quick click of the dvd/cd unit, and the reboot sequence restarts all over again, endlessly. Most likely this solution will work for you.
1 Unplug the power.
2 Flip the laptop over.
3 Slid the "lock" for the battery so you see red (or the battery is in unlock).
4 Push the other slider mechanism to remove the battery, and slip the battery out of its holder.
5 Take a small Phillips head screw driver and remove the screw in the middle of the back of the laptop.
6 Slide the DVD/CD player out from the side of the laptop.
7 Complete the battery reinstall in reverse steps, plug in the A/C adapter.
7 Power up the laptop.
! Viola - No more boot loop issue.
Now you need a new DVD/CD unit (or you can try to put it back in, sometimes they start working due to a poor connection).
Why? The DVD/CD player in this laptop is a convenient place to pick the laptop up. It gets jostled around a lot. There's also a lot of heat generated right near the units. They also have poor hold down and connections as you will witness, once removed. It is a part of the boot process to check its operation, no work, no boot, it doesn't communicate well either. So it just keeps rebooting not telling you why. Since the player doesn't work, you can't use your recovery discs, lol.
