The easiest way would be to buy another external hard drive case off of ebay or computer store.

If the disk is working and being recognized you will see it in Windows Explorer.

Logic board is toast. And if drive cannot be recognized it is very difficult to retrieve data! Need Pros at great expense.

The data is still on the disk but can you get it is the issue. If the logic board is still good and the drive is recognized by bios that it is do able. But if the drive is not recognized, you may need some recovery service. If you really want your data, don't format since that erases all and makes a recovery operation even more difficult and expensive. Bottom line - it is always prudent to have backups of backups for obvious reasons.. If this is an external drive remove it from the shell and connect it directly to computer. Either the hard drive is bogus or the electronics of the external adapter is the culprit. Take out drive and hookl directly to mo bo as a secondary drive. If recognized drive is ok and the box is at fault.
