Hi, the best way is to try and get a damp cloth and i use the end of a wooden spoon with the cloth to remove as much as i can. Then if and when you finish doing that i obtained from the supermarket a washing machine cleaner called Dr Beckmann deep clean .

Broken or defect intake magnet valve, if you can get your hands on the replacement part, fixing it should be easy-medium level difficult. It would take a service/repair man 3 minutes.
The WM5140 is getting to be between 5-7 years old, about the age that the carbon brushes in the motor wear out. You can pick up a new set on Ebay for £6.99 including delivery (take a look at item number 131407433619 on eBay). They are pretty easy to change with the motor in situ, though, personally, I like to drop the motor out and do it on the bench.
Hi Shirley
Well, If you are talking about the brushes (electrical brushes) which are inside the main drive electric motor.?
Then firstly I would check to see if this motor has brushes.
Most AC motors don't use brushes on a copper commutator.

They do however use a large external capacitor to kick start them in a particular direction and these can go bad.

They often sit there & hum and can be push started. Not with the fingers or hand. A wood stick on the belt drive. But thats just to prove that it will work when the Cap is replaced.
This is better done on a work bench.

But... if you know that the motor has internal brushes you still have to take the motor out & pull the back end off to see & change the brushes.
So, either way, you will have to get access to the machine to remove the motor. While there check for a tin can attached close to the motor (the Capacitor)
Usually a job for an Electrician so be careful to disconnect from the power before opening the machine. Water & Electricity can be deadly.
Good Luck
Cheers
At 3 months old it will still be covered by the manufacturers warranty so you would be better off contacting them. If you tamper with anything, they will claim you have voided the warranty.....been there, done that.
Modern machines are all controlled by a circuit board and they do fail on a fairly regular basis and my guess is this is the problem.
I would lay money on the engineer replacing the board, a 5 minute job and the problem solved.
I can't emphasise enough, do not touch it and do call them out.
Please do not use the washing machine again, as you are risking the possibility of a fire at your place. The fuses & circuit breakers are there to prevent fire. It seems you have a dead short in your washer.
Someone will need to repair the washer before you attempt to use it again, this needs to be a certified repair shop. You may have had nothing to do with the problem, for example, it could have been a lightning strike in a storm.
God bless your efforts.
