Trouble with rear speakers
This may be a software issue. If you only had two speakers before, the software will not use the rear speakers.
Go to Control Panel. Click on "Sound and Audio Devices". Under the Volume Tab, at the bottom, you will see a picture roughly representing the type of speakers.
Click on the Advanced button.
Click on the arrow in the pick box, and choose Surround Speakrs or the 5.1 Speakers.
Click Okay. Try the speakers again.
Recepter Radio HD does not work
8-21-2021 FM reception across the band was degrading in sensitivity over time & now barely gets 2 very strong stations . I'm an Electrical Engineer radio designer. I intuited that the tuner's frequency synthesized oscillator could be corrupted / unstable causing a noise that degrades sensitivity. Today I confirmed that the oscillator is indeed unstable from digital noise in the synthesis mechanism. worse at the 88 mhz end than the 108 mhz end. This typical action for a synthesizer. Hope when open it up a simple degraded resisitor or capacitor component in the synthesizer will reveal irtself. Elsewhere someone reported contaminant on the PCB which is also a likely cause of degredation. Perhaps a leaky back-up memory AA battery dripped "acid" on the PCB and just needs to be cleaned ? jerry at jdm labs
8.22. I measured the the spectrum of the FM tuner's superheterodyne oscillator which should be a single pure frequency . Instead at the 2 ends of the band the spectrum plots show it has multiple frequencies spaced about 40 kiloHertz apart which becomes a 40 kilohertz "noise" interfering with the desired signal . The frequency synthesizer is a Sanyo chip LC72131 and I'm searching for the application schematic diagram of the Recepter ( only owners manual is available) to identify which components may have failed or shifted. Hopefully the chip is ok but need to figure that out too.
Boston Acoustics Solo volume knob stopped working altogether. Turning it either way does nothing, no volume number appears. Soft reset doesn't fix it. Any thoughts?
I don't know if you will see this or not, your post was 2 years ago. I have the same problem. My volume is stuck at 24. I have tried soft-reset........among other things. One thread says to turn volume down to 00 then press for 10 seconds. I have no control over the volume, so, yeah, thanks for that fix. I found that I could get the volume down by unplugging it,plugging it back in and sometimes the volume would pop up and I could turn it down one notch. I did it till I got to 00.............thought AHA! My problem is solved! No such luck. When I press the volume at 00 and try to hold it for 10 seconds, after 3-5 seconds it just pops back to the station frequency. I also thought that if I could get into the guts and spray the volume control with tuner-cleaner, it might help. No go.......after taking off the cover, I found a bunch of REALLY delicate looking electrical tapes and wires..........I was scared I would destroy something in an attempt to reach the volume control. I hate to trash this radio, the sound is awesome...............great design on the speaker, NASTY design on the controls. I'd be VERY interested to know if anyone, anywhere, has found a fix for this. I think maybe my next step will be hitting it with a hammer.
Boston acoustics pv-1000 won't power on
Just fixed my PV1000 that would not power on. Verified 185vdc on bulk capacitors. Measured 11vdc on U5 (UC3842) from pin 5 (gnd) to pin 7 (vcc). Then measured 0vdc from pin 5 (gnd) to pin 8 (ref). This should be 5vdc. This means that U5 is shut down for undervoltage. Turned out to be two open resistors. R94 100k 2w and R77 33k 2w. Never would have guessed that as there was no sign of heat discoloration. They are next to each other between U5 the UC3842 PWM IC and Q3. This prevented the proper startup voltage for U5. Replaced them and I'm off and running once again. Hope this helps someone.
7000684, 7000787, 7000947, 7001364
In DEC 1998 I bought a Gateway PC with a Digital Media Theater,
P/N 7000787. In the meantime the speaker in the sub-woofer got damaged (because of age).
Is it possible to disassemble the sub-woofer and replace the speaker?
Where can I buy the same or a very similar speaker for this sub-woofer?
Thanks, Andy Szekely
