The ink absorber box or flushing box is nearly full. These components are periodic maintenance items that may require replacement after a period of time to ensure optimum performance from your Brother machine. Because these components are periodic maintenance items, the replacement is not covered under the warranty. The need to replace these items and the time period before replacement is dependent on the number of purges and flushes required to clean the ink system. These boxes acquire amounts of ink during the different purging and flushing operations. The number of times a machine purges and flushes for cleaning varies depending on different situations. For example, frequently powering the machine on and off will cause numerous cleaning cycles since the machine automatically cleans upon power up. The use of non-Brother ink may cause frequent cleanings because non-Brother ink could cause poor print quality which is resolved by cleaning. First thing you need to do is to reset it. If you reset it and continue to use it without completing the process of cleaning it out completely you will have the waste ink tank overflow causing major damage to the machine, your desk it is on and possably the carpet, curtains and anything even close to touching the machine and subsequent items being touched by the machine. Ink on a non-porous material will travel a very long way damaging everything in it's path. Menu - Black Start - Up Arrow x4 This needs to be done in the space of about 5 seconds. On the screen should now read Maintenance. using the up and down arrows get the LCD screen to read the following: Between each number you need to press the 'OK' Button 8 0 This is now in Function 80 which is the system log. Use the black start button to get to the log for Purge or Flush counter it is normally somewhere in the region of 25th in the list. Once you are on this item. Use the up and down arrows and the OK button to do the following sequence: 2 7 8 3 This will reset the purge/flush counter to 0 Press the Stop button to return to the Maintenance on the LCD screen point. use the up and down arrows and ok button to do the sequence: 9 9 This will exit you from the Maintenace Mode. Now you will have reset the counter but you are not done yet. We are up to the hard part now and the messiest. You need to clean the Waste Ink Tank out. You have to dismantle the printer to get to the waste ink tank. This requires a bit of knowhow to do it without damaging the machine but you can't get the knowhow without opening up the machine. This will require removing several screws and unclipping various parts of the casing then removing several cables to allow the different parts to seperate. If you are unsure or don't want to risk it don't do it as damaging the machine or the electronics inside the machine just means shelling out for a new printer and rather than spend the time to reset the machine and cleaning it out only to replace the machine because of a broken part on dissasembly or reassembly you may just want to replace it outright. It may be in one of two places. Depends on the machine. The cleaning process is the same for both systems. The easiest machines have it in a box behind the paper feed mechanisim. Disconnect the two feed tubes from the box and remove the box. Break the plastic seal over the Waste Ink Tank material. The not so easy machine has the waste ink tank underneath the main chassis of the printer. You have to lift all the components if the machine up to get to the waste ink tank. Do this to access the material. Remove the material and clean it out using lots of running water squeezing as much ink from the material as possible. Wrapping it in Newspaper to absorb water put it on the ground and stand on it to squeeze any water out. Place the material aside for a couple of days in a warm dry place to completely dry out. Put the material back in the respective waste ink locations as shown above. Then reassemble the machine and test. Failure to complete the cleaning process I stress again WILL result in the overflowing of the Waste Ink Tank. Proceed at your own risk.

This is a common occurrence for these machines. They can get confused when cartridges are changed before they read as empty. To correct this. 1) Unplug the printer from both the Power and Computer and remove all cartridges closing the cartridge access panel. 2) Plug the printer into the Power only and turn on. The machine will complain about no cartridges, this is fine. 3) Open Ink access panel and insert the first cartridge (Black is most common and close the panel. 4) The machine will complain about the missing cartridges. Open the panel and insert the second cartridge in the sequence and close the panel again. 5) Repeat the process for the third and fourth cartridge. 6) Once all cartridges have been installed the printer will ask if you have replaced the cartridges. Say no to the Black, Cyan and Yellow but yes to the Magenta and it will display the correct readings. If this process fails to read the cartridge still then there is something wrong with the sensor inside the machine which probably means new machine.

Error 4f means that your carete is damaged, probable after using not oryginal cartridges, it's reportable but to expensive. If you used brother ink, you can do an complaint I in brother service point.

Hello, Jorge. It would help to know "exactly" what the error message states, such as "The USB Device Not Recognized" or something like that. Here are a couple of things to try in order to narrow down the problem source: 1. Try a different USB connection on the computer. If that one works, the problem is probably that other connection port. 2. If none of the ports work with the printer, try a different USB-powered device, such as a cell phone and charging cable. If it works, the problem lies with the printer/computer connection (more likely the printer). 3. If none of the USB ports work, the problem might be your USB port itself. Go to "Device Manager" (in Control Panel), then look for "Universal Serial Bus controllers." Check to see if any have a disabled symbol. Check under "Properties" that device status is: "This device is working properly." If not, try updating the drivers (under the "Driver" tab).

Check the obvious drum and toner ok, paper supply ok, paper not jammed in fuser. then check out the attached link then buy a new machine, keep the drum and toner cartridge from the old one as spares.

Power the machine off by holding down the power button. Wait a few seconds and then power the machine back on. - If no error message appears on your machine's

Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power. Then press and hold the power button for 1 minute. Now release the button, plug in the printer and turn it on and see if the error clears. If it doesn't fix the issue, you probably have to replace the cartridges. They will cost about $65. Good luck!

Open the printer replace the cover sensor if you don't find the rocket wire or terminal.

The hard drives are in a USB externa enclosure, set up as RAID 1 and are formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). I do not save any TM back ups to them and they work after a restart and then sometime later start to provide the error message anytime I try to save to them. A restart usually fixes the issue for a finite period of time. Disk Utility runs and tells me the disks are fine. I never have trouble accessing data from them. For more help visit cbrtechsolutions

Remove the cartridge and reinsert after switch off. Now un-install the driver from the PC and reinstall , then connect the printer which will be detected and new hardware installed.
if the cartridge is not found then there are faults in the main board.

Sounds like you will need to replace the drum. You can order a drum kit from Grand and Toy or from the Brother website. There are also many other websites you can order a drum kit from. Once the Drum unit is replaced your printer will start working again.

For a cheaper solution you can always reset the drum kit making the printer believe that the drum kit was replaced. For this you might need the manual.

Give this a try, press "menu", "6","6" keys. This should get you to the reset menu. Now scroll down until you find Fuser, press "ok" button then "1" to reset it.
