If you're in the military can you choose the rifle you carry?
No. most countries organized armed forces will issue the weapons they want you to use. they can better maintain and support them rather than having 100s of different types of weapons.
However you may be able to volunteer to carry one of the many squad/platoon weapons provided.

Will the us military develop new battleships?
the size of the battleships made them slow, vulnerable, and requiring a larger crew than smaller ships. also, large caliber guns are not used in naval warfare these days.
destroyers and cruisers have plenty of missiles onboard.

Should I start hoarding money in case WW3 breaks out....?
IF you were the type that prepares for future calamity you would probably want to hoard something of more value than paper money. chances are that the currency will be devalued or wortless if the economy collapses.
another commodity such as gold, silver, or even cans of tuna may become the new currency.

Why is it said the a O-1 would be smart to listen to a E-9?
An O-1 has 0-2 years of experience. An E-9 would have 15-30 years. the E-9 typically "trains" and guides the O-1 in leadership especially how to care for his or her troops. Every successful military leader will tell you they owe much to their Chiefs and Sergeants who showed them the ropes.

Can civilians salute the American flag?
there is no "law" against civilians rendering a hand salute. some already do,i.e. Boy and Girl Scouts, Police, Firefighters.
The typical or recommended salutes are guidance written into the flag code which describes flag etiquette. just as there is no law that says the flag shall never touch the ground, it is etiquette and respect that guides us.
