Hi, please make sure that canon isn't blocking certain batteries from being used. You can also check that the batteries work by placing them into other devices and testing them. If you have an adapter please use that to attempt to power the camera. Thank you.

From the Canon owner's manual: "Error codes 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80: Shooting is not possible due to an error. Turn the camera off and on again or re-install the battery. Operate the power switch, remove and install the battery pack again, or use a Canon lens (p.32, 28)."

Are you using a direct connection between the camera and the laptop, or a separate card reader ? If the former, it may be worth investing in a card reader, simply so that all the work is done by the computer - it may be that the camera has insufficient power to bulk-transfer images.

How old is the battery? They will only take a certain number of charge and discharge cycles. The external flash mount (hot shoe) has a small sliver of metal which when the external flash gun is slid on pushes it down to tell the body to not use the pop-up flash and some times the sliver doesn't return fully up to contact the underside of the hotshoe

Test using a different battery. When it does like that it is often the battery shorted inside. If the problem occurs using a known-good battery, then the contacts in the battery slots or the circuits behind the contacts have a short. When there is no battery the shorted wires or contacts are not "hot" and the short does not prevent the camera from starting.
If the problem is not the battery the camera must be disassembled. In that case disassembling will start from the screws on right hand side (watching from front), then screws in front, then left and back. Unless you have done similar repairs before it is advisable not attempting to disassemble the camera. The camera is very easy to damage. There are springs, wires and tricky parts near to shutter button on top, selector wheel and strap holder. If problem is camera and not the battery you can get a good quote on repair here:Repair.

Yes, I'm sure that camera will be fine, the 20D some years back was considered OK for wedding images
BUT its more about the quality of the LENS you are using and will it wok in all situations
I used to do a lot of Film work for weddings and used various canon camera bodies, but the lenses where the important factor for speed, composition - I also used a top quality flash unit, that could be used OFF camera. I used a 28mm lens, 50mm 1.8 lens - very high quality and cheaply available, 135mm portrait lens, and various zoom lens
I also always used a tripod, so i could compose the groups and then leave, the camera and go and work with setting up the group, and using a remote take the picture. I also used a flash frame on the flash, so I could turn the camera between portrait and landscape with out worrying about the flash gun

As far as I know, you should use L series Lens to fit Full Frame Canon Camera (5D & 1D).

That would be no adapter, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

I do not know if this is going to be of any help. I was actually reading about this error code 99 in canon, and bumped into a forum, where people had share their experiences. You can give it a try. But if your camera is still under warranty, it is best to ring technical support.

"ERR 99" is a general error code displayed by the camera when the camera knows that something is not working properly, but not exactly what.

This error is typically associated with lens communication or shutter mechanism issues. To isolate the cause of the issue, we suggest that
you do the following:

1. Turn off the camera.

2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.

3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.

4. Insert a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.

5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

Does the "ERR 99" message appear? If it does, then the camera should be serviced. If it does not, then please proceed to the next set of steps:

1. Turn off the camera.

2. Insert the CF card.

3. Turn on the camera.

4. Format the CF card in the camera.

5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

Does the "ERR 99" message appear? If so, then the CF card is the most likely source of the issue. Try using a different card.

If the message does not appear, please complete the following steps:

1. Turn off the camera.

2. Clean the lens contacts by gently rubbing them with a pencil eraser or soft cloth. Be careful that you do not let any debris fall into the
