Start by connecting it to your phone. Until you do that, it's not a fax. Now put the document you want to fax in the document feed tray. Push in buttons to dial phone, and away it goes. It's pretty easy.

What do the flashing red lights mean? One isn't flashing at all and two are flashing in cycles of 3 and the last two are flashing in cycles of 1

E020 The path between the sub hopper and the developing assembly is clogged with toner. 0000 The developing assembly toner sensor detects the absence of toner, while the sub hopper toner sensor detects the presence of toner. With the developing clutch turned on, the hopper feedscrew motor is rotated for 1 sec intermittently 194 times; still, the developing assembly toner sensor does not detect the presence of toner. Replace the developing assembly toner sensor. Replace the sub hopper toner sensor. Replace the DC control PCB

check for a damaged sensor that reports for either fault (am or no paper )

Because your printer probably thinks they are in colour. Check the settings on your print process.

Hi Elizabeth There are a couple of ways to connect:

1. Run a USB cable from the printer to your PC. You'll need one of the interconnect- type cables that looks like the end of a thumb drive on one end and has a square-ish plug on the other.
2. Bring the printer up on a wireless network: The printers don't generally support ad-hoc wireless connections (i.e. direct from your laptop), so you'll want to handshake the system with your wireless router. The menus will take you through setting up the necessary passwords. Be careful here - the printer will only handshake across a limited number of encryption protocols, so you'll want to look at your manual for the particulars.
3. In either case, you'll need to download printer drivers, or (re)install them to your PC. in order to be able to take advantage of the printer capabilities. The Canon site for manuals, drivers, and software is here:
