With standard color coding of wiring, the clear coated should be the negative ground. However, this is not always a guaranteed bet. If you just want the pickup polarity, use a meter on ohms or continuity and test each wire to the pickup body, presuming the body is metal. The body should be ground. See if the neck is twisted at all. Might need a truss rod adjustment, or dressing on the frets.

Hi Deb: A couple of ways to check: 1) Plug your guitar into a different amp and see if it works. 2) Plug a different guitar into your amp and see if it works. 3) Try your guitar on your amp but use a different cord. I'd be betting that the nearest music/instrument store would be quite happy to check your equipment for you, and most reasonably experienced musicians would likely volunteer to help. the strings on most floyd rose tremelo systems require a small allen wrench(hex head) to loosen the pressure on the bolts holding the **** end of the string in. should be easy access from the top of the guitar. hold the guitar up to your face, **** end first and look up the body towards the neck. there should be six different screw ends visible. loosen counter clockwise. you have to trim the ball end off of a new set with wire cutters in order to replace.

I'm sure you have solved this by now, but I would recommend hooking the straight pin of the spring into the 1st, 3rd, and 5th holes on the trem, then hook the loop ends to the three center claws. This gives a variable or progressive rate of resistance, letting the trem gargle like Vai or Dimebag, but resists going out of tune.

This sounds like a worn nut groove. The string is sitting too low. Does the buzz happen all the way up the neck or just on open string?

It looks like you have 2 humbuckers (how many wires on each?), one 3 way selector and 1 volume and 2 tone controls, plus the output jack. Tell me how many wires on these humbuckers and what colors and I can help you wire it.
