The Tray Table in Tray 2 took more than 40 seconds to rise or didnt rise at all. First, check the tray 2 lift gears. Second check the tray 2 lift arm. Third check the tray 2 table height motor (M403). Lastly, check the tray 2 Height Sensor (S413)
I have listed these in the order of their likely to fail. Most of the times, its the lift gears
Print head hits side of printer and will not print
The sensor that registers the carriage location has failed. Could be paper chaff, dust or other contamination. USUALLY these are an optical sensor (infared can't see the light) that a blade on the carriage breaks the beam. They are small. The location of the carriage is sensed and a counter keeps track of the position from there. If the sensor is not detected, the carriage tries to keep going and hits the side.
IBM Wheelwriter 2, the bottom half of the letters are not printing. It is not the ribbon because I have changed it out.
Two things come to mind for this problem. First try pushing down firmly on both ends of the black rubber platen roller. Sometimes the black plastic latch on either side may break causing one side of the roller to lift up causing partial print. The other possibility is the ribbon is not lifting correctly. A technician can adjust the ribbon lift. After typing a few letters, take the ribbon out and look at the letters on the ribbon. Are they in the middle of the ribbon or are they at the top or bottom of the ribbon? middle of ribbon is correct.
