Maytag air conditioner model number m6x08f2a-c keeps turning off after running for a short period of time
If its older than a fee years you may need to clean the outdoor coil. It may be shutting down due to high pressure. I couldn't locate a Google hit so I'm assuming its a window a/c? If so the "air entering" side of the outdoor coil can get dirty and you normally can't see this side until the unit is removed. But you can try to UNPLUG IT FROM THE WALL!!! And the take a water hose and spray from the outside of the outdoor coil. This will try and remove debris. Its always best to remove from window to clean if possible. If the outdoor coil gets dirty it will retain its heat instead of rejecting it to the atmosphere, and heat retension will increase freon pressure causing a high pressure/temperature sensor/switch to open.
My Maytag air conditioner won't turn on.
The red light on this model indicates, like a dehumidifier, that the internal condensation "tank" is full. This unit normally discharges excess humidity through the exhaust vent. When humidity is excessive the unit cannot evapoate all the moisture out the vent pipe. There is a black rubber plug in the back bottom of the unit. Get a very shallow pan that will fit under the unit and pull the plug. After it has drained completely, run the unit on fan only to continue to dry out the internals. After 30 minutes or so, switch to cool and it should run. If the unit shuts off again after about 10 to 15 minutes, you have some sort of blockage that is causing the moisture to backup and trip the sensor. You will have to take the back off the unit and remove the blockage.

"Check Filter" light is on
Take out the filter and pour water on the oposite side that is the dirt,if the water is not enough use degreaser and also clean thefront cover where the filter goes.
What is a capacitor
A capacitor stores energy for starting or running electric motors in most cases, however, they have many many many other uses, but storing energy or raising voltage for use at a latter time is there primary use.
Unit turn off inmediatly after turning it on
There is a low freon pressure switch in the system. A small amount of freon will show enough pressure to start the unit. As soon as the compressor starts the low side pressure (where the switch is) drops and shuts the unit off.
