What does the code 5E mean
The 5E (SE) code indicates a problem with the keypad. A temporary solution may be to unplug the microwave and then reconnect the power cord. (Since the MMV1163DB is a microwave/hood, you may find it easier to turn off the power at your circuit breaker.)
However, you will probably need to replace the keypad or fix the wiring between the keypad and the control unit. If the microwave is under warranty (1 year from date of purchase), contact Maytag at 1-800-688-9900 . One potential solution is to check for damage to the wire between the keypad and the central control unit in the microwave. If you are handy, you can try the procedure that can be found with a Google search. Look for a link to an ApplianceJunk.com forum on the 5E code. However, I can't recommend the procedure for most since it is very easy to break the ribbon cables or their connecting tabs.

I hope this helps.
