See if the battery has a capacity and voltage on the outside. If so, then you may be able to find a compatible battery under a different brandname that will fit inside the phone. Red flashing means it is a non-rechargeable or incompatible battery. If that flashes red, then the charger probably has a manufacturing defect.

I sounds like the idler wheel is worn out. Do you use your unit to rewind the tapes? if so this is what part needs to be replaced. In any case it is best to use a vhs rewinder whenever a tape should need to be rewound,don't use the Panasonic. This will help to save that part. Its not to say it can't be used but it is the main part that tens to go first. I use to repair these units and replaced that part many times.Good luck. From USA.

From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully.
