I have a Panasonic TH-42PX600U that will not turn on

Normally the event that you saw is the power supply. Sometimes it can be a failure on one of the boards that caused the power supply to go in to protect, or be damaged. You must consider that after about 40,000 to 50,000 hours most electronic devices reach their expected life. There is something called MTBF (mean time between failure). This spec for consumer products is evaluated at normal room temperature of about 72F. A warmer operating environment will reduce the expected MTBF. As you stated your set is about 2.5 years old. This is before the average MTBF period. Your set must have maybe 25,000 hours at most. I would expect to have a few years more with it. From my experience when a TV, or appliance, or moist any electronic device has about 5 years of age it should be at its end of life period. At this age of a device investing money to service it has risk something else can fail.

Plasma tv

Check the cable line thats attached to the bad set on another set side by side. If the other set still has no channels your going to need to trouble shoot or replace the tuner control bad and the tuner assy.

Panasonic plasma tv, TH-42PD60U Picture break up with sound. Ran a fan behind it to cool it off. Worked for a while, then stopped completely with the 8 blinking red light.

Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ If blinks continue without any pause, the main board is faulty. Search the site by type in the "brand name" to your device, in the "Search box at the top right of the display window of the Homepage" to get gathered related posts.
