If you purchased the bassinet recently and still have the sales receipt, take the bassinet back to the store for a replacement or a refund. Or, contact the online retailer, if you purchased it online, and find out about returning it and having your purchase price refunded.
If you purchased the bassinet as "pre-owned", it may be one that was manufactured and sold new between 2002 and 2008 and subject to recall by the Consumer Product Safety Commission:

By the way, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notice (link above), Simplicity seems to be out of business, which may be why you have had no luck reaching anyone in Simplicity Customer Service.
