I have a Sony STR-AV770 receiver that has stopped

your question depends on how good you are at electronic diagnosis (symptom diagnosis) and how adept you are at removing and installing electronc components. first you have to determine why the amplifier has stopped working on the left channel. Make sure that the problem isn't a simple one, take the speakers off the right side and hook them to the left side and see if you get sound. If you do,, then the problem is the left speaker or left speaker wire. If you don't get sound then tyr taking the input that feeds the right channel and pluggin it into the left channel and listen for sound, if you get sound now the problem was the signal from your source not being sent down the left side.
If it still doesn't work you need to move inside the amplfier, but first, get close to the back of the amp and give a sniff, do you smell anything (a pungent burnt wire or rubber smell) if you do, the the chances are good that some components have burned out. Do you recall having a shorted speaker wire on the left side? shorted speaker wires are notorious (especailly older equipment) for burning out the final amplifer stage. If this was an expensive amp it might be worth fixing, if its not worth much then maybe you should consider religating it to use as a monophonic amplifier (one channel) you could use it to power a sub woofer in a hibryd stereo or surround sound system.
I don't know what more I can tell you at this point. If you go through the steps I outlined, and want to tell me the result I shall be glad to respond and maybe give you another direction to head in. good luck and I'm glad you are adventruous enough to want to try.

STR-DB840 no sound in speakers

There are 4 blue relays in the unit that has solder points that will crack over time.
It´s fairly "easy" to re-solder them and viola, it´s OK again.

open the cover (unscrew and take of the hood) and locate the 4 blue relays.0cddb82.jpg Unscrew and remove the bottom service plate and locate the soldering points for the 4 relays.c0f1d35.jpg
Each relay has 6 solderings, 4 in one "groop" and 2 in one "groop" look especially at the "2-groop" these are the ones most likely to crack over time ( for me 12 years or so).3436d08.jpge6f7344.jpg
Re- solder. Best of luck //Ronnie Stockholm

Flashing blue light on sound bar. No sound

Double check to make sure you don't have the "mute" on. Usually a flashing light indicates that the volume has been muted.

Problem with FM reception.

Sony radios of this era had notorious capacitor problems.... also several other brands were affected. These capacitors were underrated and the technology to make them was not at it's best back then. The cure is to replace the capacitors on the board with new electrolytics. About 28 of them need to be replaced but the big problem is to find someone to do this. the original capacitors are surface mount and must be removed and new radial lead caps put in their place, some are rather tough to get at and the new ones have to be placed carefully. My SONY ICF-SW7600 now works as new and maybe even better!
I have done this myself as I have skills working with surface mount capacitors. I offer my services to those who cannot find service for their radios. Please email me for details, I am not into making bucks on this, I just want to see these radios kept working and bringing enjoyment to their owners.

My sony receiver is stuck in protect

I've had a Sony STR-DE725 for years, and it's always worked fine, until recently. When I turn it on, instantly, or within 1 minute - it will "click" and then display "PROTECTION". Like any good DIY'er, I googled everything - so I looked for any loose speaker wires, and finding none - decided to open it up. I pulled it out on my workbench, opened up the case, and blew out about an inch of dust from everywhere with an air compressor. Next I disconnected and reconnected every connection that I could easily reach. Finally, I unscrewed (about 1/4 turn) and re-tightened every single screw that I could reach in the guts of the receiver. It works fine now! Go figure... probably the dust, or a loose connection somewhere. Definitely try this first, as you have nothing to lose but 30 minutes of your time on a weekend!

Volume knob of sony icf- sw 7600gr radio stuck on high volume. Cant be reduced

Recently I found a Sony ICF 7600GR with same issue.... Radio runs full volume.. can't be controlled... Found a SMD package capacitor C252 ,1uf was short.. 1.2Volt was missing on pin number 14 of IC 203

Check these voltages of IC 203 ( CXA1522P)
Pin -15 Voltage is 1.3V
Pin -14 voltage is 1.2V then" No/low Volume".
Pin -14 voltage is below 0.5 then "Full Volume ".

By varying volume control (RV204 , 50K) , Pin number 14 of IC 203 must vary between 0.3V to 1.2V.

Sony amp ta fe370 is no producing sound at the speakers but there is sound in the headphones.

Did inserting the headphone Jack cut the speakers off before it stopped working? If it did then you should look at the headphone jack socket inside the unit. The terminals could be either bent out of shape, broken or just dirty.

Sony PS-LX250H turntable speed adjustment on underside, how??

Great detective work.

Let's collaborate on this for the benefit of others who may have the same problem.

L.IN should be the point at which the Lead-In groove on the LP would be, where the tonearm will drop to play an LP
RET should be the point at which the tonearm will lift up and RETurn to its rest at the end of the LP

That leaves us with SW. If your source is right this will affect the Speed. I can't imagine what the W stands for.

Since this turntable lacks the traditional strobe light and dots along the platter rim for determining if it's on target speed-wise we have to improvise and make a Strobe Disc.

It has radial marks on it and you place it on the turntable like a record. The lights in your room running at 60hz will make it appear to be stationary if the speed is correct; slowly creeping CW if too fast; CCW if too slow.

Here's a link to a PDF from which you can print your own disc... http://www.extremephono.com/ftp/60Hz.PDF

Here's what you do. Lay the trimmed Strobe Disc on top of a record while it's playing one of the outer tracks. This is because the stylus imparts some drag so we want to factor it in.

Then adjust the screw exactly one turn Clockwise and note how the speed has changed. Trial and error should get you to where you want to be.

Sony XAV-AX70BT Security Unlock.

You have to contact the Seller or Sony. details in the link Welcome to the Sony Community! We are sorry to hear about the issue that you are having with the XAV-60 car stereo. The code that the car stereo AV center is looking for is a 4-digit security code that is programmed into your system during the installation process. This code is generally needed when one of the following issues occurs on the car stereo:
  • the AV center was reset.
  • the screen locks up on the unit.
If you purchased the vehicle from an individual, contact the seller of the car to see if they can give you the code. If you had your AV center professionally installed, we recommend that you contact the installer to see if they are able to provide you with the code.
