"Write Protection" is a definate problem, but may be solvable (short of reformating) by checking the original files which, most likely, came from a CD copy. To see the attributes, right click on the icon and go down to select properties. There you will find "read only" highlighted for both the album folder and its sub files or songs. At this point the trick of avoiding "write protection" is to select the "read" attribute to unselect "read". Then select "Apply" and a window pops up showing boxes, one of which will say apply to folders, sub-folders or files, etc. Click on that box, then click on "OK". You will notice that the folder "read" attribute will remain highlighted, but that the subfolders' attributes do not!! (This is for Windows XP) At this point proceed to copy this folder OVER the same folder. You will be asked if you want to overwrite the existing folder with the same name. YES, please. The files will be replaced with identical file data, except the "read" attribute will be blank or unhighlighted, and NOW you can delete the folder.
I own a walkman NWZ-S545,
Used to be jacks were wired point to point, meaning the strips of metal from the jack had a wire attached to each that lead to a circuit board. Now mostly little prongs come off the jack and are soldering straight to the circuit board so that when plugged in if the solder joint is weak or the plug takes a hit these prongs can separate from the solder. Not only was the older point to point system easier to work on since the jack was not encased in plastic but the connecting wires allowed for a lot of give if the plug/jack took a hit. When pressure or a certain angle is put on the plug it may cause the prong(s) on the jack to temporarily reconnect with the solder joint. So......take screws out so you can remove cover to expose inside of jack. Plug in buds, power on unit and play a song. With something non conductive such as a chopstick press down on areas of the jack and when sound changes you've probably found where the broken joint is. With power off you must then unscrew the board to expose the back side of the board and re-solder the connection using a soldering iron that comes to a small point so that nothing else but that joint is touched. Usually you can use the solder that's still there without adding any extra. Never soldered? Might want to get a friend who has. The only other possibility is there is no longer a good connection to the plug. Easy to fix in the point to point days, but now the jack needs to be replaced(with difficulty the jack can be repaired, but may require cutting the plastic housing in half.
