You have to conected it to the line out audio. In the back of your tv will be says "Audio Out" conect it with the red and white cable to your rca seround system and press "Aux" button on it.

Your friend is wrong you will get same resolution of 1080i whether you use component or Hdmi.

Could you please provide a pic so I can see exactly what you are talking about. Did you try power cycling the TV?

You probably need to replace the backlight. In parts less than 30$. If you know your way around these things, or know someone who does, it's not a super difficult thing to do. You can get a tutorial that's written for monitors here: http://www.inventgeek.com/Projects/shorts/lcdfix.aspx basically the same procedure for an LCD TV. Good luck!

This TV is 10 years old and probably requires a service that replaces the backlight invertor or just a power supply issue. Check to see if the light blinks. (That is the fault code and then google the result for more information).

Why would you want to do that? You still have to walk to the machine to take the DVD out.
