Standard Horizon Radio Communications - Recent Questions, Troubleshooting & Support

It sounds as if the radio needs to be reprogrammed. It could also be a cold solder joint causing the problem but my guess is the radio needs to be reprogrammed. If you purchased this used, it is very likely that the frequencies were removed prior to the sale. OR, the EEPROM was removed to make surre that the frequencies were removed. It's typical practice for radio shops to do this to prevent unauthorized use on radio frequencies.

Usually from the battery, but it all depends on the installer. Most of these istalls have been poorly done by people that don't have a clue. ower should be taken directly from the battery with a fuse at the battery terminal. This will reduce electrical noise heard on the radio.

More information please. Re wire existing? Hand mic or desk style? It is often cheaper to buy a new one when you look at the time to do it well. Sometimes you can buy a mic cord and re solder the head to it.

It sounds as if your squelch is open. Turn your squelch control until any noise from the speaker drops out. Your busy indicator should go out.

It sounds like you have CTCSS squelch activated and that the manual quelch control is fully open. Try adjusting the manual squelch. My quess is that the "BUSY" indication drops, and you will then be able to scan, etc.

To change this radio from Canadian to USA or to International frequency band plans, hold down the [16/9] key and press the [CLR (WX)] key. The band will change from Canadian, to USA, then to International on each press.
Australia uses the International marine band plan.
Have fun.
