Can't get my Stihl weedeater to start/stay running without holding down the throttle

If it only works at full throttle it sounds like this is a fuel supply issue. Are you getting hard start issues? When was this weed eater last given a full service? A clogged fuel line, Clogged fuel/air filter or and old spark plug can have a bigger effect than you think. Bad, old or wrongly mixed fuel can also affect how the engine will run. (Stihl recommend a 50/1 mix on 2 strokes). Modern fuels go 'Bad' after a few months leaving a varnish like coating inside the fuel system. You often get this if it is stored over the winter with fuel in it. The carburettor could also need cleaning as well. If you have no experience working on small engines or carburettors your safest option is to get a specialist repairer to look at it for you. Servicing small engines like these is usually quite cheap as it is usually only one spark plug, a foam air filter and a small amount of engine Oil.

My chainsaw dies or seems as if it chokes out while i am cutting. Any ideas why? I have a STIHL MS 170

You are probably running it too rich. Try leaning out the high speed jet a little. That's the one closest to the air filter. Out to the left, in to the right. Out richens, in leans. Too lean = cooked piston, so be careful. If you really screw it up, take it to a STIHL dealer.

remove your bar and chain. check now for oil. also at this point clean and inspect the oil hole on your bar. if you get oil from unit with bar and chain off then the problem is in your bar. if still no oil and assuming you have oil in reservoir then remove clutch and oiler cover remove the worm gear and inspect. if damaged replace if not with low pressure used compressed air through to resevior

How do I adjust the oiler on a ms271 stihl chainsaw saw

Alot of chainsaws have a dial most of the time on the bottom of the saw. Using a flat head will do the job... there should be a little indented drawing of a chain and oil drop where the dial is

Why am I getting gas into my oil tank 009 Stihl chainsaw

Its an old enough saw that the gasket in the case could need replacement. Uts the 1st cause that I can see looking at my 09 (and my other 2 stihls...the newest 1 year old, the oldest the 09). Even my oldest saw from the 40s, an old arbor saw looks like it will eventually need one. They can't last forever. so I did some research and from the stihl sites, arborist sites, etc....they all say the same...split the case and replace the gasket. Most say after replacing it they still had small leaks. It is "possible" to have wall leaks as cracks can hide amongst the pores that can and do grow over time. The speed and severity based upon the care of the machine. words of warning: there are a lot of sealers out there and I suggest you buy the gasket at a saw shop and request from them the proper sealer if you see any porousness in the case. If you find cracks its a good idea to consider the saw a parts saw. Unless its otherwise in great shape and you like to tinker. Then you can find one in bad shape with a good case...you get the idea. 009's have love/hate reputations. They're either the best little saw or the worst little saw anyone ever used. Maybe run it while it lasts (the tanks are small so there shouldn't be too much transfer unless there's and actual hole in the wall of the case. Run less than full tanks. Check often. as one option ive used in similar situations is gas tank coating/sealer. Make sure guard any and all holes from it and a very small amount of Red Kote may save you a lot of trouble and keep your saw going for a long time. in the meantime...start saving some change in a jar as the days may be numbered for your saw.
