it depends on what you want from the antivirus program, naturally ones that you pay for do give a few more options..if your wanting one you pay for then I suggest doing a review of each antivirus program and see what others say about them and how they worked on there pc.I have used nortons in the past and also microsoft security essentials and they are ok, for the past few years I've used the free avg on all four of my pc's, it does a good job and along with it, I use malewarebytes also for extra protection of trojans an other unwanted pests..I keep both avg and malewarebytes up to date and run scans on my pc's every day to make sure there are no hidden pests and there is also a place in avg to scan for website cookies, those irritating bugs or pop up the some sites have and I make sure I clean them off my pc's everyday...good luck
