You can take it apart and see if the touch pad is a membrane with impregnated carbon pads on the back of a silicon sheet. If it is, you can use alcohol to clean the pads and board. When you take it apart, take pictures as you go and draw a diagram for screw locations and put the screws in the diagram so that they are not left out or wrong size. Good luck
