Throw the set in recycling and buy a new set, its not worth repair, the part would be close to 100 bucks if it was available

You didn't say anything about the model or make but a lot of times this comes from bad capacitors...try this...on the open fins on the back of the TV, try putting a blow comb on there and set it on low and leave it there for about 3 minutes, turn the set on and see if it comes right on, if it does there are bad caps on the power board, it could be replaced or you could repair it yourself for a couple dollars
